Herbal Self Care

Rituals can create lasting positive change.  Simple rituals like meditating for five minutes each day, turning off our phones when we get home, or taking a daily walk are important because they allow us create a time and space that is separate from the rest of our lives.  Rituals allow us to take a step back, making room for a shift in our perspective.

Adding herbs to our rituals makes them more sensual and enjoyable.  You’re more likely to repeat these rituals and the herbs you smell, drink, or absorb through your skin can make the ritual more beneficial.

In this workshop we will sample many aromatic and pleasing herbs that can bring us relaxation. We will end by each making our own personal herbal blend to use in a tea, steam, oil, or soak.

Herbal Hydrotherapy

Part of the pleasure of using herbs on a daily basis is that they invite a measure of ritual into our lives.  Immersing herbs in hot water requires us to slow down as we wait for them release their aromatic volatile oils, filling the air with scent and the water with their medicine.  In this class we will learn about three types of herbal hydrotherapy: teas, steams, and baths.  We will taste and discuss the benefits of a variety of herbs and herbal teas and try a soothing herbal facial steam.  At the end of class you will have an opportunity to make a tea blend, steam blend, or bath tea blend to take home.

Herbs for the Feminine Spirit

The art of gathering plants and making medicines was within the realm of women (mothers, witches, crones) for thousands of years.  So many of us are now disconnected from that tradition and crave the nourishment and magic of healing plants.
In this class we will taste and discuss herbs that are particularly beneficial for women.  These herbs nourish our bodies, balance hormones, ease menstrual cramps or childbirth, soothe raging skin, promote or suppress fertility, clear up infections, and bring dreams. Join us and discover your feminine plant allies.

Through the warmer months we can use our plant medicine straight from the garden, either making a tea with the fresh leaves or just chewing them while still outside.  Before the plants die back at the end of summer we must harvest the leaves and flowers to preserve them for use over the winter months.  In this class we will discuss various ways of preserving, blending, and using medicinal plants in alcohol, honey, vinegar, and oil, tasting and testing the medicines along the way.

Doing this work of intention-setting in a community gives us strength and our intentions a foundation.

Join us the next new moon, July 4, to set intentions for what we want to manifest in our lives in a fun and relaxing new moon ceremony.

This ceremony is open to anyone who identifies as a woman or is gender non-conforming.

Communities across the globe have used herbs to aid digestion for generations.  This is why meat is often paired with rosemary, fennel is eaten after meals in India, and jasmine mint tea is served after a heavy Moroccan tajine.  In this class we will discuss and sample herbs that can be appropriate to ease indigestion, gas, constipation, diarrhea, and queasiness.  We will also discuss the role that bitters can play in healthy digestion.  At the end of this class you will take home a few servings of a custom digestion-supporting herbal tea blend.
